Firework Sensitivity For Santa Fe High School Shooting Survivors
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is defined as a psychological well-being issue that a few people create subsequent to encountering or seeing a perilous occasion, similar to battle, a cataclysmic event, an auto crash, or rape.
The students that endured the shooting at Santa Fe High School are asking that we be considerate when shooting off fireworks this 4th of July. The sounds of a firework going off can be mistaken for a gunshot. This sound can really have bad effects on someone suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
One Student, Presley heard fireworks over Memorial weekend and panicked. Presley’s mom reports her little girl was so scared that she had to sleep with her that night.
Another surviving student Sarah said, that she is okay with fireworks and plans to celebrate as they normally do.
PTSD Symptoms
1) Re-encountering: Nightmares or potentially flashbacks
2) Avoidance: Avoiding things or jolt that is an indication of the injury.
3) Arousal: Senses stimulated by a sound, smell, taste contact
4) Negative feelings: Sense of enthusiastic deadness, unavoidable antagonistic perspective of individuals and the world, outrage. In some cases the main feeling a man may have is outrage.
